PONDA: The Vat Purnima or Vada Poonav was observed at different places is Ponda Taluka. In this celebration, married women worship and perform pooja praying for their husbands’ wellbeing and peaceful life at home.
At Kavlem several women on Thursday morning performed pooja of huge banyan tree and later tied thread around the tree. There is a persistent belief that this pooja fulfill their wish to have their husband for seven births. Later “Prasad” was distributed to all family members gathered near banyan tree.
The traditional concept is to honour Savitri, the legendary wife, who rescued her husband’s soul Yama.
