MARGAO: The repair and restructuring works of the Aquem-Davorlim powerhouse junction, which has been left incomplete for the last 7 years, are likely to commence in November.
Due to the incomplete work, several accidents have taken place recently at the junction.
The works are pending for want of financial approval from the PWD.
It may be recalled that the proposal to carry out the repair and restructuring works of the Junction was placed by the PWD engineers before their superiors, which were later rejected on several occasions.
However, this time, some engineers now say that the repair and restructuring of the junction could start in November if the works are approved. The repairs and restructuring works of this junction were started by former District Collector G P Naik. But his successors failed to complete the same. Several major highways and some village roads have been connected to the junction, which have made matters worse.
“In a letter to the collector, we demanded rumbler strips along the road. But after several months, the authorities paid heed to our demand,” claimed Anand Sawant, a resident of Davorlim.
When contacted, Executive Engineer of the Division VI Edwin informed, “The works were not approved on several occasions as the rates of GSR kept changing. Now, the proposal will be passed and the work is expected to start in November”.
