BICHOLIM: The workers of Vedanta mining company operating in Bicholim have expressed anger at the lackadaisical attitude of the company and the government in solving their grievances.
Addressing a press conference here, the workers’ legal advisor Ajay Prabhugaonkar said that neither the mining company nor the government has taken any concrete step to solve the issues of workers.
“The mining company has plans to transport 20 lakh tonnes of iron ore through Sarmanas village, but on the contrary is not willing to solve the issues of workers,” Prabhuhaonkar said adding, “the company should first pay the full salaries of the workers.”
He warned the company that the workers would not allow transportation of ore till their issues are solved.
Nilesh Karbotkar, the leader of the workers, said that issues like paying the bank loans of workers, payment of arrears since 2014, payment of bonus and other issues are still pending and the company is not willing to solve the same.
“We will not allow the company to shift the machinery elsewhere till our issues are solved. We will agitate in front of the residences of political leaders from Monday to get ours issues solved,” Karbotkar warned.
