Workers serve strike notice on Mormugao Municipality

To stop work from 6 am onwards on December 28

VASCO: Due to the inordinate and unexplained delay on the part of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) in resolving several pending issues, the Goa Municipal Employees Association (GMEA) issued a strike notice to the chief officer as well as chairperson on Tuesday.
In the notice, the GMEA has declared that all daily wage, casual, temporary and contract workmen employed at MMC and are affiliated with GMEA would stop work from 6 am on December 28.
According to the information, the strike notice was issued by GMEA President Keshav Prabhu.
In the notice, Prabhu complained that the MMC did not pay provident fund dues to the PF authorities even after detecting the same from the monthly salaries of the workers. This, he said, is illegal, inviting criminal action.
Similarly the MMC did not pay MACPs to the eligible workmen, failed to pay grade pay allowances, uniform as well as festival allowances besides bonus for the year 2015, he accused.
In the strike notice, he further complained that the daily wage workers have not been paid their salaries for the last two months; and, the MMC failed to implement the minimum wage of Rs 323 per day approved by the government.
Prabhu also brought to the notice of MMC that the workmen who are due for promotion have not been promoted. Since the municipality failed to meet all these demands, even after several reminders, the GMEA has decided to go on strike from December 28, he added.
