PANJIM: Despite claims of agreeing to implement security measures at Apna Ghar, Merces, a few child inmates attempted to escape from the premises of the state run home, by breaching the fence on Thursday.
They were however caught and lodged back in their dormitories. Lately, around five children had escaped from the shelter-cum-remand home. Some of them were caught and brought back later. Over 36 inmates have escaped in the last two years, few of whom have been traced. The Department of Women and Child Development had claimed last year that Apna Ghar will be subjected to major infrastructural changes in tune with recommendations in the Levinson Martins report, which also included raising the height of the fence.
