CUNCOLIM: Yet another show of police brutality has come to light and this time the Cuncolim Police are in the news for allegedly assaulting Clint Rebello, a young seafarer and Betul resident.
Clint Rebello, who has been admitted to Hospicio Hospital, Margao, alleged that he was been brutally assaulted by five policemen attached to Cuncolim Police station.
Clint informed mediapersons that on Sunday evening at around 5 pm he was driving his car and a policeman suddenly stopped him. When Clint asked the policeman as to why he had stopped him, the cop just told him to go. After being asked to go, Clint said he just made a silly remark “mad fellow”, which was heard by policeman, who came and slapped him.
As there was an argument between Clint and the cop, the other policemen arrived at the scene and took Clint to the Assolna police outpost, where they brutally assaulted him with slaps, punches and belts, Clint alleged.
Clint claimed that he was then taken to Cuncolim Police Station were five policemen assaulted him with belts and was threatened that he would be put behind bars and would not allow him to board ship if he misbehaves with the police.
He was later referred to Balli Health Centre were doctors sent him back stating that he sustained minor injuries.
Betul sarpanch Savio D’Silva admitted Clint to Hospicio Hospital for treatment.
Clint sustained facial injuries and had marks on his back, which reveal that he had been allegedly assaulted with belts.
Terming the alleged assault on Clint by the Cuncolim police as insensitive, the sarpanch has demanded action against five policemen. Meanwhile, no complaint has been registered by Clint.
When asked for their reactions to the alleged assault on Clint, Cuncolim police refused to comment on the allegations.
A departmental enquiry has been ordered into the alleged assault on Clint by the police, informed police sources and added that DySP Raju Raut Dessai will probe the incident.
Recently, the men-in-khaki had been in the news for allegedly assaulting a FC Goa football fan Lester D’Souza at the Fatorda stadium.
