MARGAO: Writer Anwesha Singbal bagged the Sahitya Academy award for youth literature for her poetry collection titled ‘Sulus’. Her father late Arun and mother Deepa are also writers, making her the second generation of the family to be writing.
“I believe people working with a cause; it may be literary or social, should not be working for awards. If they do come along in the journey, then yes, they are part of the many inspirations you find on your way,” Singbal told Herald.
“I dedicate this award to my late father Arun Singbal who was and will continue to be my biggest inspiration and to the entire youth fraternity of Goa who I believe will always keep our Konkani fraternity united. Konkani is not just a language, it is an identity after all,” Singbal said.
Singbal, a law graduate, has been writing since her childhood. This is her first poetry collection. Her next poetry collection ‘Padsaad’ will be released next month. She had earlier bagged the Yuva Chaitanya Puraskar of Goa Konkani Academy in 2014. Anwesha has worked as the general secretary of the Konkani Bhasha Mandal and is also one of the organisers of the Goa Yuva Mahotsav.
