MARGAO: South Goa Youth Congress on Friday protested against the withdrawal of special protection group security to the Gandhi family and also burnt an effigy of MP Pragya Thakur for her statement on Nathuram Godse in the Parliament.
Youth Congress members led by their President Varad Mardolkar and Goa in-charge Hemant Ogale presented a memorandum to Additional Collector Prasanna Acharya protesting against the withdrawal of the special security cover to the Gandhi family by what they termed “dictatorial Modi government.”
They said the security cover was withdrawn all of sudden without amending the Special Protection Group Act that mandates special security to prime minister, former prime ministers and their family and also without giving any cogent reasons even though there is a clear evidence of a likelihood of a terrorist attack in the country.
The Youth Congress members also burnt an effigy of MP Pragya Thakur for terming Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse a “desh bhakt”.
