Zico confirms interest for FIFA top post

PANJIM: Chief coach and marquee manager of FC Goa Arthur Antunes Coimbra fondly known as Zico has confirmed his interest in contesting for the FIFA president’s post.

The Brazilian legend and three-time World Cupper was addressing the media on his arrival in the State at a stared hotel, here, on Tuesday evening along with co-owners of FC Goa Shrinivas Dempo and Dattaraj Salgaocar.
“If they (FIFA) change the way they select the candidates than I feel prepared to contest. I will have to gather the support of at least five federations,” said Zico.
After guiding FC Goa to the semi-finals last season, Zico wants the backing of the fans to win the title this time. The tactician has already chalked out a perfect plan which includes selection of players for the draft, pre-season training, timings of training etc.
However, Zico was on the opinion that it will be very difficult for him to come back to FC Goa next season if elected as the president of FIFA with the sports body set to go for polls in December.
FC Goa had attracted top stars in the form of Andre Santos and Robert Pires while roping in Brazilian stalwart Lucio as the marquee player this time.
