>> On October 16, 2009 at around 09:30 pm next to Reliance Trade Center, V V Road Margao, Goa had its introduction with terror.
>> A IED in a parked scooter went off killing Malgonda Patil and Yogesh Naik. The duo was supposed to plant it at a Narkasur competition near the municipal building, which is 100 meters away from the blast.
>> According to the investigation agency, Rudra Patil who is being hunted by NIA, along with Malgonda Patil, who succumbed to injuries and Dhanajay Ashtekar brought gelatin sticks and detonators and other accessories like printed circuit boards, transistors, batteries, wires, etc to make the IEDs to the residence of Laxminath Naik at Talaulim Ponda and hatched the conspiracy to plant explosives.
>> They had also tested the explosive on a hillock at Talaulim on 26, 27 & 28 August 2009 and in the last week of September in Sangli, Maharashtra.
>> Rudra’s role first came to light in the 2009 Margao blast and now in Pansare’s murder of February 2015 after the arrest of Samir Gaekwad, a Sanatan volunteer.
>> Goa Police after the blast had constituted a SIT under Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohan Naik and begun investigations.
>> However, in December 2009 the Home ministry decided to hand over the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
>> NIA after investigations in May 2010 had chargesheeted the case in the Margao special court against 11 accused, including Rudra Patil. All 11 were Sanatan volunteers but the case was dismissed in 2013.
>> However, NIA challenged the acquittal in the HC but it is yet to be taken up for hearing.
>> NIA officials said the case was dismissed by the Special Court on technical grounds and hence they decided to challenge it and file another joint charge sheet.
