PONDA: World Famous neurosurgeon and son of Wadi Talawalim village in Ponda, Dr. Premanand Ramani is set to run his 100th marathon organised by Smt. Ahilyabai Ramani Prathishtan on November 4, at Wadi-Talaulim, Ponda.
Speaking at a press conference, Dr. Ramani who is 80-year old and active said, “The marathon is being held for the past 18 years for the villagers of Wadi-Talawalim with the aim to create health awareness and due to the huge response, the scope has been widened. In recent years, it has been opened for celebrities and participants from various parts of the world.”
The organising Committee members Dr. Antonio Figueiredo, Rajesh Shenvi, Vinayak Naik, Mukund Raiturkar giving information about the marathon said, “Dr Ramani so far has participated in 99 marathons in various parts and this will be his 100th marathon.”
The Marathon will stretched over 21 kms and will be flagged off at Bhahusaheb Bandodkar ground, near Kashi Math, Bandora, at 6 a.m. by the hands of South Goa MP Adv. Narendra Sawaikar in the presence of Subash Shirodkar, former MLA of Shiroda and Chairman of EDC.
An estimate 1500 runners are expected to participate in this year’s marathon along with many celebrity runners.
PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar will be the chief guest at the prize distribution function along with other dignitaries.
Prizes worth Rs 6,00,000 across different categories will be given away.
