After missing out on two seasons in the Indian Super League, Goa’s son and Pune City FC defender Adil Khan has returned with a bang!
He has been terrific for his side not only with his defensive prowesses, but also showcasing great goalscoring abilities in the ongoing ISL season four.
The only Goan player in the Pune team has scored two vital goals for his team including his match-winner against Jamshedpur that handed the debutant side their first defeat.
“It’s a great feeling to be back in action and getting onto the scoresheet. I have missed the last two seasons due to injury and it was difficult to stay without doing what you love to do. But everyday is a learning process and I have to improve as I grow. It feels great to defend and stop the strikers from scoring but feels even better to score goals,” said Adil Khan.
The former Churchill Brothers FC defender will play in front of his own fans, but will feature as a rival for the Goan fans, but the defender is determined to give his best for his club.
“It’s always good to play in front of your crowd. Family and friends will be there but they will want the home team to win. But still I will have to play and perform for the club and for our fans,” exclaimed Adil.
The former Churchill Brothers defender is looking forward to carry his present form to bring a halt to FC Goa’s dream run in the league.
“FC Goa is a good team. They played well in the last five matches but they have conceded lot of goals as well. I always say, all the teams are good in the league, given any day it’s the team which performs well, walks away with three points. We are come here for three points and we are looking forward to take something from here,” said a confident Adil.
Goa’s attack is undoubtedly and unarguably one of the best attack in the league, but their flaws lies in their defence.
“The way we have our strikeforce, it will be difficult for FC Goa to mark our strikers —Mercelinho and Alfaro. They are quick with the ball. We are looking forward for a good performance against them,” revealed Adil.
The centre back feels his side can stop the rampant Gaurs and said, “FC Goa is a good side, but they are beatable. We can stop the Gaurs as we have a good defence line. If we concentrate for 90 minutes than we can achieve it. If you look back, we have conceded goals in the second half of the play due to lack of concentration. If we stay with coaches plan we can stop them”
