AFC Women’s Day celebrated at Varca, Orlim high schools

MARGAO: The Women’s International Day was observed by Churchill Brothers FC as AFC Women’s Football Day with special programmes for girls at St Mary’s High School, Varca, and St Pius X High School, Orlim.

 The day was celebrated as the AFC’s Women Football Day to promote and honour the progress of women’s football in Asia. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is India’s 10th National Federation to join the AFC in observing the special day for the 10th successive time.

“We were thrilled that our girls have played part in celebrating the day showcasing immense talent and passion our girls have for football. We remain committed to creating opportunities for girls to also excel in football,” disclosed PE teacher Antoneta Fernandes.

 “Through initiatives such as the AFC Women’s Football Day, our school hopes to inspire the girls to excel in football, and the celebration is a testament that the management is committed to nurture talent, creating a vibrant environment through the vibrant game,” observed PE teacher Avinash Misquita.

 A six-a-side football tournament was organised in association with St Pius X High School, Orlim, in which 32 girls participated. Sister Ritty Joseph, manager; Sister Lina Gracias, headmistress, were the special invitees.

At St Mary’s High school, Varca, 20 junior girls and 20 sub-junior girls participated in the championship. Gilroy D’Souza, headmaster, St Mary’s High School and Antoneta Fernandes, were the special guests.

 Certificates were awarded by the chief guest Valanka Alemao, AIFF’s Executive Member, Chairperson of AIFF’s Women’s Committee and CEO of Churchill Brothers along with Savio Alemao, vice-president of Churchill Brothers FC and Sheron Alemao, Varca Panchayat member.
