RAIA: Agxem Sports Club were crowned champions defeating Novowaddo Sports Club 5-4 via tie-breaker in the 2nd Corjem Youth Club 9-a-side inter-ward football tournament organised by Corjem Youth Club at the St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Sunday.
Both teams played an attacking soccer and kept the Sunday crowd on their toes but couldn’t break the deadlock at full-time to settle for a goalless draw.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Agxem SC scored through the efforts of Alroy Gomes, Michael Paes, Josley Gomes, Joel Paes and Jovial, while Myson, Nazlie, Aliston and Milagres found the net for Corjem Youth Club.
Curtorim MLA and GIDC Chairman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco was the chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony and gave away the prizes in the presence of Guests of honour Curtorim Zilla Panchayat member Michelle Rebello, St Alex Church Parish Priest Fr Manuel Dias, Fr Milagres Dias, Fr Michael Fernandes, Fr Geraldo Da Costa; special invites Nifa Coelho, Arnaldo Costa, Luis Azavedo, Roque Mascarenhas, Alec Soares, Vince Da Costa, Abelia Menezes, President of the club Caje Cardozo, Secretary Glen Cardozo and Treasurer Alifton Cardozo, other dignitaries and club officials.
Winners Agxem Sports Club were richer by Rs 33,333, while Novowaddo Sports Club had to be content with Rs 22,222. Third place winners Bhatti SC got Rs 11,111and 4th place Cumborda SC got Rs 5,555 plus trophy.
