MAPUSA: Dempo Sports Club registered a 2-0 win over Sesa FA in the U-21Reliance Foundation Development League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Sunday.
Dempo SC scored a goal in each session of play through Mevan Dias (33rd minute) and Salgeo Dias (80th minute).
Dempo SC colts dictated terms and had better of the exchanges in both sessions of play.
A stinging direct free-kick by Arnold Oliveira came off the rival defender in the 15th minute of play.
At the other end, a teasing cross from the left flank by Sesa FA’s skipper Thokchom Singh was well controlled by Jonas Quadros but he connected the ball skywards.
After much probing, finally in the 33rd minute, Dempo SC forged ahead.
Dempo SC’s Asmon Viegas got hold of a ball from medio Arnold and shot at the goal which was smartly blocked by Sesa FA’s custodian U-23 Mahadev Gawade when the ball rolled to Mevan Dias who shot the ball into the goal, 1-0.
In the 37th minute, Sesa FA lost a glorious chance to level terms when striker Sankalp Kankonkar collected a through pass from U-23 Omkar Shetgaonkar but saw his ball lob at the goal over the onrushing Dempo SC’s custodian Myrick Hilario, came back off the crossbar.
On crossing over, Dempo SC time and again attacked the rival citadel, but the strikes scored only in the 80th minute where a cross by Arnold was paired by the Sesa FA’s keeper to Salgeo Dias who made no mistake to tap the ball into the net, 2-0.
Dempo SC’s Asmon Viegas received the man-of-the-match award.
In the earlier match, Churchill Brothers edged past Clube de Salgaocar 3-2. Churchill Brothers went into the breather with two-goal cushion with Richard Fernandes and Mohammed Sahil pumping in the goals.
On crossing over, Ashwek Jadhav netted Churchill Brothers third goal.
For Clube de Salgaocar, Boinao Singh and Sheldon reduced the margin.
Churchill Brothers Mackenzie Fernandes received the man-of-the-match award.
