A splendid brace by striker Ajay Satarkar enabled Verna Sports Club defeat Raia Sporting Club 2-1 and enter the semi-finals of All-Goa Bro Eulalio Vaz memorial inter-village football tournament organised by Don Bosco Oratory, at Don Bosco Oratory ground, Fatorda, on Tuesday. The teams were tied 1-1 at half time.
Verna enjoyed a lion share of exchanges and went into the lead in the 15th minute when striker Ajay Satarkar unleashed a stiff shot which crashed into the net.
Stung by the setback, Raia regrouped quickly and neutralised the lead midway, when Ashley D’Sousa punished the rival keeper with a snap shot.
Verna put up a better performance in the second half and created many openings in the rival territory.
With the match heading for a tie-breaker, Verna made their last ditch efforts and it bore fruit when Ajay Satarkar placed the ball into the far corner of the net.
