ALLAN NATIONAL MOTOCROSS KING
l Goan rider records grand double, creates history
HERALD SPORTS REPORTER
PANJIM, DEC 19
Goa’s ace rider, Allan Sequeira rode majestically in both motos at TVS Sports and Tourism Goa Gold Cup FMSCI’s final event organised by Goa Motorsports Association and Gomes Sports Academy at Gomes Race Track, Annavaddo, Candolim on Sunday.
Allan, in the process, rewrote Goa’s sports history becoming the first and only Goan to annex the National Motocross title and record a double crown as he had last Sunday won the National Supercross title in Pune. Such a feat is unparalleled in the history of Indian motorsports.
It was US’ trained Revat Dhillon who had promised to give the competitors a ride for their money, but it proved to be false as it was Allan, who cleverly outpaced and outclassed the Delhi stuntman in both motos.
It was only in the first moto that Revat looked like challenging Allan, being a close second until the last but one round, when Vishal Bargujee took over with Allan clear in the lead.
Allan did not have a perfect start in the second, being sixth at the end of the first round. It was Goa’s Javed Shaikh who took an impressive lead in the second moto and looked like he would emerge winner, going by the furious pace he set up. At the start of the third round, Allan managed to climb up to the second behind Javed and it was a neck-to-neck fight until the penultimate round, when Allan took the inner of the curve as Javed moved to the outer side and threafter it was Allan all the way.
It was surprising that Javed had some indecent exchange of words with Allan when the later raced to the front at the sharp curve. But worse still was Javed’s indecent gesture aimed at Allan’s supporters from Margao and Navelim who were waving flags and rooting for their icon, when the rider realized that Allan had overtaken him finally.
It was unfortunate that Javed, who had good support from the crowd had a fall in the first moto and could not complete it.
Allan won the third and final leg and tallied a solid 103 points to emerge overall National champ. His only competitor for the title was Jatin Jain of Nagpur, but the rider had a nasty fall at the practice session yesterday and had to undergo a major surgery on the knee. Jatin finished with 66 points to finish overall second. Maninder Singh and Badal Doshi tallied 63 points each overall.
Allan was a picture of confidence today. He rode majestically and stamped his class as he did the jumps with aplomb. “It’s a pity that Jatin got injured. I had prepared for the event systematically and rigorously. This was the best race of mine technically. It was a great event and I dedicate it to Goa and Goans. My fans and supporters thronged in very large numbers from Margao as well as Navelim. My entire family members were also present. My mother made it to the event for the first time ever. She has been my big support alongwith my wife Cheryl,” Allan remarked.
Allan congratulated Ashley Gomes for holding the event in a professional manner and for giving him a chance to prove his mettle. “Organising such events and that too in a highly efficient manner is no small job. It entails lot of hard work and sacrifice and this fact alone needs to be appreciated from Ashley,” said Allan.
Having set a new double record, which will be pretty hard to emulate, Allan was awarded Rs 72,000 by Standley Sequeira and Queine Sequeira, both from UK, so as to enable Allan to buy a new two-wheeler since he is riding on a borrowed bike. It was presented by Jayant Naik and Ashley Gomes.

Stunts were performed by TVS national champ Santosh, Stefan Trudsan of Sweden and Revat Dhillon which kept the large Sunday crowd on their toes.
Floor Fillers with Miss Goa 2010 Sparsha Deshpande provided high energy entertainment.
