PANJIM: Almeida HS clinched the team championship of 5th SRS Ponda Taluka chess tournament organized by SRS Computers, Ponda.
In all, 127 students from 13 different schools from Ponda participated.
In the individual category, Shubham Sawaikar from IVBD HS scored 7.5 points and bagged the first place. Vageesh Tendulkar also scored 7.5 points and finished second place. Aston Dias came third place. Rankings (4th to 10th ): Sohan Nageshkar, Gaurav Madkaikar, Vineet Madkaikar, Mohit Khandeparkar, Mitra Chodankar, Shaunak Kuncolienkar, Milind Gauns (seven points each).
Akash Chodankar, Vishwesh Pai, Adinath Shirodkar, Saurabh Prabhu and Vivek Singh scored 6.5 points each and were awarded consolation prizes. Special prizes were awarded to Sarvam Naik (best unrated player), Virendra Sahakari (MIBK HS), Ruthik Shanbhag (Wagle HS), Bhalchandra Gaude (Wagle HS), Rohit Chelluru (Swami Vivekanand HS) and Viraj Naik (Swastik Vidyalaya, Priol).
Amogh Namshikar, chief arbiter of the tournament was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. Sandip Pagi, Anand Kurtikar, Vatan Kuncolienkar and Dr Jayashree Madkaikar were amonmg those present. Sagar Sakordekar, managing director of SRS Computers, welcomed. Radha Sakordekar proposed the vote of thanks. Archana Tendulkar compered.
