Ambelim SC sail into quarter-finals

MARGAO: Ambelim Sports Club edged past Verna Sports Club 2-1 to cruise into the quarter-finals of South Goa Yarri Cup inter-village football tournament organsied by Cuncolim Union, at Government School ground, Cuncolim on Monday.
Ambelim Sports C squandered the easiest chance of the first half when Nial Cardozo failed to tap in from a close range off Jade Colaco’s assist.
At the other hand, Verna SC were jaded and failed to function as a unit with their forwards hardly made any attempts in the rival territory. 
Ambelim had yet another chance to score but Jade Colaco failed to beat the rival goalkeeper in a one-to-one sitaution.
Post resumption, Ambelim SC came back strong and shed their lethargic approach with their forwards and midfielder put the rival defender under tremendous pressure.
 Ambelim’s breakthrough came in the 56th minute when Stanley Colaco ran down the flanks and floated the ball inside the rival penalty box where Micheal Silva trapped the ball well and slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
 Ambelim Sports Club doubled the lead in the 66th minute when Ralf Colaco unleashed a blistering shot saw the rival goalkeeper Paxton ‘s deflection travel again to Ralf Colaco to finish it. 
Down by -0-2, Verna S C went all out in search of goals and Christo D’Mello rasping shot from 15 yards crashed into the net which gave hope to the Verna camp but it was too late as Ambelim wrapped up the game.
