MARGAO: St Anthony’s Sports Club, Marna- Siolim proved too strong as they out played Candolim Sports Club 6-0 and sail into the quarter-finals of North Goa Yarri Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Saligao United, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Monday
St Anthony’s SC enjoyed the total domination and pushed their opponents on the back foot. Pushharaj Mandrekar gave the Siolim team the lead in the 16th minute. At the other hand, Candolim looked rusty and were restricted to their own half as their forwards were in poor as they hardly tested the rival defence. Siddhant Shirodkar who was in thick action doubled the lead with stiff shot off Pushaparaj’s cross as he punished the rival goalkeeper with clinical finish in the 32nd minute .
In the second half Sagan Pednekar struck two goals to register his brace in the 36th and 38th minutes. Sagan Pednekar stamped his class as he chipped the ball over the rival goalkeeper to complete his hat-trick. The last 20 minutes saw Candolim SC frustrated as St Anthony’s SC refused to take their foot of the gas Siddhant Shirodkar scored to make it 6-0.
