Ambelim sports complex inaugurated

MARGAO: The Ambelim Sports Complex was inaugurated by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Thursday. 
Other dignitaries present were Velim MLA Benjamin Silva, Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado, Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik, St Andre MLA Wagh,  Director of Sports V.M. Prabhudessai, Ambelim Village Panchayat Sarpanch Sofia, Fr Cajitan Dourado, FC Goa player Keenan Almeida and Romeo Fernandes.
Speaking on the occasion, Parsekar informed that the government is giving more importance to sports activities in the State.  
“The government has declared football as official sports of Goa and also started Goa Football Development Council to develop football from grassroots level. The GFDC centres across Goa is doing a wonderful job by training children to develop talents. 
“The sports department has spent 2.6 crore for the construction of village ground. Second phase of this project will include swimming pool, a multipurpose hall and a practice ground.  The government has also sanctioned Rs 16 crore for another ground at Teleacto, Velim,” he mentioned. 
Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar in his address said that government will go all out to develop sports in the State.
