PANJIM: The venue for the 37th national Games archery event is yet to be finalised as none of the sites inspected by the visiting IOA Technical delegation on Saturday have been found suitable.
The delegates inspected the Chicalim cricket ground which was found to be uneven. The same was the case with the Pedem ground in Mapusa. Perhaps, the venue could be finally at Campal, but it will depend on the dates allotted to baseball event which will be held there.
Weightlifting will be at Campal ground in Panjim where a huge structure will have to be erected for practice as well as the main events. It will be an AC hall. This is a fallout of non-availability of Savalvada indoor stadium built for the specific purpose but not available since it has been allotted to the GMR staff of Mopa Airport. The venue at Ponda was also found to be inadequate.
The SAG technical staff was present at Campal where the new structure is expected to come up.
Football for men will be at Nehru Stadium at Fatorda while the women’s event will be held at Tilak Stadium, Vasco.
Fencing will be held at Shyamaprasad stadium at Taleigao.
The IOA delegation comprised Suhail Pervez (boxing), Joris Paulose (archery), Kumbasi Subramanya (weightlifting), Dola Banerjee (archery), Uday Dongare (fencing). Amitabh Sharma – Chairman GTCC.
