SANGUEM: Arlem Youth Association won the 16th inter-village football tournament after registering a solitary goal win over arch rivals Margao Sports Club organised by Uguem Rising Club, at URC Club ground, Uguem, on Sunday.
In the fast paced match played in front of large festive crowd, both the teams dished out good display of soccer which kept the crowd entertaining throughout the match.
The score during the lemon break read 1-0 after Cian Fernandes of Arlem Youth Association scored off a brilliant cross from Elton Colaco.
After changing ends, the match continued to be played on the same note with Margao Sports Club making frequent forays into rival citadel to bring parity but to no avail.
Arlem Youth Association increased the lead in the tenth minute of the second half through Elton Colaco.
The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 40,000 plus trophy while runners-up had to be content with Rs. 30,000 plus trophy.
GFA President Churchill Alemao was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar, South Goa Mahila Congress President Savitri Kavlekar and Chaplain Fr. Abel Fernandes and other dignitaries.
