VODLEM-BHAT BENAULIM: Arlem Youth Association, Raia got the better of Ambelim Sports Club 3-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the 7th Sebastian Union Club’s football tournament, organised by St Sebastian Union Club, Benaulim, at Sao Joao Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Thursday.
Ambelim’s Nial Cardozo and Hayden Pinto missed two early chances and on the other end Arlem failed too. In the tenth minute, Arlem’s Lloyd Cardozo had the clear sight of the goal but his shot from touching distance was saved by the rival custodian Benny Silva.
Finally at the half-hour mark, Joyston Barbosa put Arlem ahead with a fine finish.
In the second half, Arlem doubled the lead through Eldon Colaco in the 46th minute.
In the 64th minute, Arvind Fernandes pulled a goal back for Ambelim.
With just three minutes left on the clock for the final whistle, Arlem netted the third through Danny Fernandes. Arlem Youth Association, Raia will meet Mandopa SC in the quarter-finals on July 30.
