AMONA: Providing a boost to youth and sports in Amona, the Vedanta Sesa Goa – Value Added Business (VAB), as part of its YouTheChange, YouThePower initiative, inaugurated a newly constructed artificial turf ground, here, recently.
The facility boasts of floodlights and a fenced arena which will facilitate conduct of football competitions and other sports events, providing a vibrant space for training, competition and community engagement.
The facility was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the presence of Vedanta Sesa Goa Value Added Business CEO Saptesh Sardesai, Pale Zilla Panchayat Member Gopal Surlakar, Amona Sarpanch Sagar Kamlakant Fadte, panchayat members, community members and Sesa Goa representatives.
Post the inauguration ceremony, the ground was formally handed over to Amona Village Panchayat and was followed by a friendly football match which witnessed Chief Minister taking the field and encouraging the community to utilise the newly set up facility.
Sawant appreciated the initiative and said, “I would like to thank Vedanta – VAB for providing the Amona Panchayat with this turf ground. The long-standing wish of the village youth has been fulfilled by VAB. Vedanta has consistently invested in infrastructure and skill development, and now, with a strong focus on youth empowerment, this turf ground will also contribute significantly to the fitness and well-being of Amona’s youth. It is a commendable initiative by Vedanta, and I appreciate their gesture of handing over this facility to the Amona Panchayat.”
Speaking on the occasion, Saptesh said, “At Vedanta, we firmly believe that sports and physical development play a pivotal role in nurturing leadership, teamwork and discipline among the youth. The artificial turf ground is a step towards empowering young talent and creating a vibrant, active community around our operations.”
This initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of a Fit India, promoting a culture of fitness and active living across the nation.
