Babu booed by spectators

Sports Minister Babu Azgaonkar was booed by the spectators soon after he was introduced to Churchill Bros and Dempo teams in the inaugural match of I-League at Nehru stadium, Fatorda on Saturday.
The spectators were irked that the floodlights were still not in a working condition. Their annoyance could be understood as the lights have not been operational for almost five years now with the result matches have to kick off early in the evening.
The matter was taken up by PWD Minister Churchill Alemao who was also present for the match with Babu, who explained that there was just one bid received for installing floodlights which was too high at Rs 4 crore, whereas the Government had sanctioned Rs 2 crore. Babu is learnt to have told that the Government machinery was working slowly and hence the inordinate delay. That apart, he is learnt to have told that the matter was pending with the Chief Minister who would take the final decision.
