Bardez FC stun Calangute

MAPUSA: Riding on Richard Cardozo’s brace Bardez Football Club registered a 3-1 win over Calangute Association in the Goa Professional League match organised by the Goa Football Association, played at Duler Stadium here on Thursday.
Bardez FC goal scorers were Cho Lepcha and Richard Cardoz (2) while Nicolau Colaco found the net for Calangute Association.
Before the start of the fourth league match, a minute silence was observed in memory of Jessy Luis ex-GFA referee and Match Commissioner. He was also the former President of Goa Football Referees Association.
Both the teams started the match on a cautious note with the only opening chance coming in the 18th minute, ONG Lepcha who was in a better position to take a shot at the goal passed the ball to U-20 Aniket Agarwadekar whose shot was easily collected by Calangute`s keeper Savio Paes.
Bardez took the lead two minutes later when Carl D`Souza connected Richard Cardoz cross with a thumping drive which rebounded off the post into the path of Cho Lepcha, who made no mistake with his placement, 1-0. 
Bardez FC consolidated their lead in the 43rd minute through Richard Cardoz who after being teed up by ONG Lepcha busted inside the penalty box and unleashed a fierce grounder which crashed into the net 2-0.
Changing ends Bardez FC should have scored in the 47th minute when Rungsing Muinao perfect cross found unmarked substitute Sanjay Vengurlekar whose header missed the target by inches to the relief of the Calangute players.
Calangute got a lifeline when skipper Nicolau Colaco directed his header into the net from a free kick taken by Dominic Fernandes, 2-1. 
However Richard Cardoz finally sealed the match for Bardez FC scoring his second goal from a rebound after Cho Lepcha`s power packed shot rattled against the far post and came into play 3-1.
