Navelim VU down Goa Velha SC

NAVELIM: Navelim Villagers Union got the better of Goa Velha SC 3-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the late Jose Bento Memorial Trophy, organised by Navelim Villagers Union, played at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Thursday.
The first chance fell to Goa Velha in the 3rd minute when Suresh Thapa took control of the ball from Anthony Fernandes and dribbled past Joseph Gomes, the defender of Navelim, and shot from close range but Paul Fernandes, the Navelim keeper, was equal to the task.
Six minutes later, Navelim striker Prestly Gomes’ ong ranger failed to pop into Goa Velha’s net. Minutes later, a solo effort by Navelim’s Covan Lawrence hit the Goa Velha post. There was no score at the end of regulation time.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Navelim Villagers Union netted through Climax Lawrence, Aulon Gomes and Jaison Martins and for Goa Velha only Ashok Megri netted.
Margao SC pip Curtorim Gym

CAVELOSSIM: Margao Sports Club shot-out Curtorim Gymhkana 5-3 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the Cavelossim Village Panchayat Cup, organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, played at Fr Dunstan & Wellington ground, Cavelossim on Thursday.
In the first half, both teams missed equal number of chances. At Lemon break the score was 0-0.
In the second half, Margao mounted pressure and Edgar Noronha header was saved by Curtorim keeper Jovito Fernandes. Both the teams failed to score the match-winner in the regulation time.
In the penalty shootout Rocky, Valito, Cliff, Edgar and Samson netted for Margao while Savio, Caitan, Macwin scored for Curtorim Gymhkana.
Damdolem thump Batora

CURTORIM: Damdolem scored a resounding 4-0 win over Batora and moved into the quarter-finals of the Curtorim inter-ward 2nd 9-a-side football tournament, organised by Cumborda Sports Club of Curtorim and played at Curtorim ground, on Thursday.
Damdolem dominated the game. However, it was Batora midfielder Jose, who had the first real chance of the match but his well executed shot was brilliantly saved by the rival keeper. Damdolem finally took the lead in the 10th minute through Ryan and within minutes, Anthony doubled the tally. The winners led 2-0 at the break.
Crossing over, Damdolim dictated terms and continued from where they had left from. Anthony scored his second of the evening with a beautiful solo effort which had no answer from the Batora keeper Pitu Dias. Ryan also completed his brace in the 39th minute and hit the final nail in the coffin.
Batora’s Mazio Paes was named the Man-of-the-Match.
Vaddi Boys edge past United Club of Benaulim

MONTE-HILL-BENAULIM: Vaddi Boys defeated United Club of Benaulim 4-2 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the Inter-Benaulim Constituency 9-a-side football tournament, organised by Pedda Benaulim, at St John the Baptist Church ground Monte-Benaulim, on Thursday. The teams played out a goalless draw in the regulation time. In the resultant tie-breaker, Linford, Milagres, Sanford and Raymond scored for Vaddi Boys while Atiq and Ozbern netted for United Club of Benaulim.
