MAPUSA: Benny XI Sports Club got the better of St. Sebastian Sports Club, Mapusa 1-0 in the GFA’s 3rd Division League match, at Duler Stadium, here on Sunday.
St Sebastian SC started the match brightly and should have forged ahead in the 15th minute but Krishna Chougle who was perfectly positioned failed to find the nets of a pinpoint cross from Alpesh Bicholkar
Minutes later, another chance was missed when Shane Rebello’s well struck low grounder was smartly saved by Benny keeper Nehal.
Benny XI who were on the back-foot for the entire first half had the best chance in the 32nd minute when an inch perfect cross by Benny’s Oswin Goveia found Manthan Parwar who with only the keeper to beat surprisingly shot wide.
Crossing ends, Benny XI started brightly and in the 49th minute Oswin Gouveia 30-yard blistering right footer ricocheted off the horizontal bar.
Manthan squandered another golden chance for Benny XI when he failed to find the nets after being intelligently set up by Nikesh Mangueshkar.
With time ticking, it looked that both the teams would be splitting points, however in the 80th minute Benny`s Oswin Goveia who was previously denied by the crossbar, controlled the ball outside the 6-yard box and unleashed a fierce shot which had no answer from the rival keeper to score the match winner.
