FATORDA: Betalbatim SC blanked Cuncolim Union 2-0 to move into the quarter-finals of the 19th Bro Eulalio Vas Memorial football tournament organised by Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, at Don Bosco ground, Fatorda, on Tuesday.
Cuncolim striker Daulat Dessai missed two great chances in the 3rd and 6th minutes as both his powerful long range shots missed the Betalbatim target by a whisker.
In the tenth minute, Cuncolim striker Bharat Goankar after dodging past a couple of Betalbatim defenders shot from close range but Milton D’Souza the Betalbatim keeper was equal to the task.
In the second half, Betalbatim coach Seby Fernandes changed the game plan with Clifford Miranda and Klusner Pereira given the extra task of midfield to striking zone job which paid off as Klusner Pereira netted the first goal with a placement shot off Dylan Rodrigues’ connect in the 43rd minute.
Four minutes later, Clifford Miranda’s curling free-kick made it 2-0 for Betalbatim.
Betalbatim SC will now meet the winner of Chandor Club and Dicarpale SC in the quarter-finals on January 22.
