MARGAO: Betalbatim Sporting Club got the better of Navelim Villagers Union 7-6 via the tie-breaker to storm into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Chinchinim Villagers Venturas International Network Silver Jubilee Cup inter-village football tournament, organized by Union of Chinchinim Villagers, at church ground, Chinchinim, Monday. The teams were tied 1-1 at full time.
Betalbatim Sporting Club held the upper hand in the opening session and striker Austin Fernandes punished the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish to surge ahead.
Stung by the setback, Navelim Villagers Union intensified their attacks and troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids.
The second sessions continued in same vein with Navelim Villagers Union launching barrage of attacks and their efforts bore fruit when striker Joseph Dias bulge the net, 1-1.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Klinsman Pereira, Malcolm Fernandes, Luis, Jeston and Royston found the mark while Joseph Dias, Wilton Gomes, Allwyn, Jaison and Clinton Niasso converted for Navelim Villagers Union.
