MARGAO: A brilliant brace by former India captain Bruno Coutinho helped Bardez Veterans to blank Ambelim Veterans 2-0 and cruise into the semi-finals of all-Goa Camurlim Veterans football tournament organized by Camurlim Veterans, at Camurlim ground, on Tuesday.
Both the goals came in the first half.
Bardez Veterans were well served by former international and national players and kept their opponents on the back foot for major part of the game.
Persistent forays paid off the dividends when Bruno unleashed a powerful volley which crashed into the net.
Spurred by the early success, Bardez Veterans raised the tempo and their forwards swarmed into the rival territory. Bruno, who was in a thick of action struck second time before the half time to complete his brace.
After the break, Bardez Veterans enjoyed the lion share of exchanges and pushed their opponents on the back foot. They had couple of scoring chances but their forwards squandered sitters.
At the other hand, Ambelim Veterans were struggling and their forwards hardly tested the rival goalkeeper.
