PANJIM: The 3rd late Babu Naik all-India cricket tournament started off with BSNL, Chowgule, Dempo and Salgaokars winning their first match played at four different venues.
In the match played at Fatorda, BSNL won by 8 wickets. Winning the toss and batting first, DTDC were restricted to 130 in 39 overs due to a fine spell by Kuldeep Diwan (5-21) which was well supported by Rohit Mehra (2-21) and Anshul K. (1-20).
Sunny Gupta (21), Siddesh Ramani (25), Yogesh (33) and Prafull Dhule (22) were the only run getters for DTDC.
In reply BSNL scored the winning run with 8 wickets in hand in 20.3 overs with Sanjeev K. (48) and Bikas Pati (25) adding 65 runs for the first wicket and unbeaten knocks by N. S. Negi (16*) and Sunil (35 not out). Sumit took 2 wickets.
Kuldeep Diwan was adjourned Man-of-the-Match. Meanwhile in Chicalim, a fantastic century by Keenan Vaz (107) and a fine all round display by Saurabh Bandekar (74) with the bat and (4-22) with the ball helped Dempo CC to win the first match of this tournament against Geno SC.
Put to bat by Geno, Dempo scored 275 all out in 40 overs with a fine batting display by Keenan Vaz (107) and Saurabh Bandekar (74) with support of Vaibhav Govekar (31). Lakshay Garg (3-66), Amit Yadav (3-46), Harshad Gadekar (2-34) and Dheeraj Yadav (2-56) bowled well for Geno.
In reply Geno were bundled out 96 with only Rohit Asnodkar (30) showing some resistance. Saurabh Bandekar picked up 4 wickets for 22 runs with Subodh (2-15) and Akshay (1-20) supporting Saurabh well.
Saurabh Bandekar was adjourned Man-of-the-Match for his all round performance.
In a match played at Agonda, Chowgule won over Nashik CA by 8 wickets. Winning the toss and batting first Nashik CA scored 159 all out in 34 overs with Pratik Athavle (60) and Ravindra Jadhav (39) batting well.
A Fine bowling performances by Amulya Pandhrekar (4-21), Vedant Naik (3-40), Felix Alemao (2-20) and Tushar Narvenkar (1-18) restricted Nashik. A scintillating unbeaten innings by youngster Ishaan Gadekar (75 not out) with the support of Tushar Narvenkar (31), Suraj Dongre (20) and Samar Dubhashi (25 not out) helped Chowgule pass the required total of 160 for the loss of two wickets. Omkar Tawre was the only wicket taker for Nashik.
Ishaan Gadekar was adjouned Man-of-the-Match.
In the match played in Sanguem, Salgaokar CC won over Deniel CA. Winning the toss and batting first Deniels were bundled out for 84 runs due to devastating bowling by Goan Super Star Shadab Jakati claiming 5 wickets for just 8 runs.
For Deniels only Bairaj (27) could show some resistance to disciplined Salgaonkar bowling where Azim Kazi (2-12), Prajwal (1-17) and Sher Bahadur Yadav (1-14) supporting Shadab well.
Salgaokars reached the total in 6 overs with Swapnil S (56 not out) scoring some quick runs. Shadab Jakati was adjourned Man-of-the-Match.
