CURCHOREM: In an exciting and fast paced football match, Candolim Veterans registered a 2-1 win over Raia Veterans in the final of 4th All-Goa Quepem Veterans Football Rolling Cup, organized by Navyug Vikas Manch, Quepem, at SAG ground, Borimoll, on Sunday.
Raia took the lead when Robin Pinheiro slotted past the rival keeper in the 10th minute. However, their joy was short-lived as within a difference of ten minutes Shanker Palyankar of Candolim equalized.
Changing ends, both the teams tried their level best to increase the tally and after some time Candolim succeeded in their efforts through Elvis Pereira’s good placement which helped Candolim to win the match.
Candolim were richer by Rs 20,000 and a rolling trophy while Raia had to be content with Rs 15,000.
Following individual prizes were awarded to Best goalkeeper: Roger Oliveiro (Raia), Player of the tournament: Anthony Tavares (Raia), Man-of-the-Match: Caitan Xavier (Candolim) and Best defender Luis Cardozo (Raia).
MLA of Quepem Constituency, Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of QMC Councillors Deepali Naik, Dayesh Naik, Filu D’Costa, Reshmi Bhandari, Chetan Haldankar, Raul Pereira, Luizinha Carvalho, William Fernandes and Paulo Fernandes.
