MARGAO: Carmona Veterans came from behind to defeat Chinchinim Veterans A 3-2 to march into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Chinchinim Veterans Cup football tournament
organised by Chinchinim Veterans at church ground, Chinchinim, Friday.
Chinchinim Veterans went into the lead in the 10th minute when Mathew Pereira slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. They doubled the lead through Pascoalino D’Sa with a rasping drive .
Stunned by the double blows, Carmona Veterans created many openings and reduced the margin through Philip D’Costa just before the lemon break.
Crossing over, Carmona Veterans put up a better display and repeatedly raided the rival citadel and Seby Dias put them on equal terms.
With time running out, Carmona Veterans went all out and their efforts bore fruit as Seby Dias converted the spot kick after a Carmona player was brought down in the penalty area.
