MARGAO, FEB 23 A fine brace by striker Levino Fernandes helped Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim defeat Raia Sporting Club 2-1 in GFA's First Division League at Cuncolim ground, on Wednesday. Cavelossim led 1-0 at half time.

A fine brace by striker Levino Fernandes helped Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim defeat Raia Sporting Club 2-1 in GFA’s First Division League at Cuncolim ground, on Wednesday. Cavelossim led 1-0 at half time.
Cavelossim rocked the rival citadel in the 10th minute when striker Levino picked up the ball from his colleague Vitorino Fernandes and the former beat Raia goalkeeper Risven Fernandes with an adroit placement.
Cavelossim doubled their lead in the 60th minute when striker Levino received the ball from Djohn Fernandes and the former unleashed a left footer which zoomed into the net.
Raia regrouped quickly and reduce the margin through spot kick in the 63rd minute when midfielder Santan’s shot was handled by Cavelossim defender Garry D’Mello inside the penalty area and referee Egidio D’Costa awarded the spot kick after a long delay. The referee’s decision in awarding the spot kick angered a section of the crowd, who in turn pelted missiles onto the ground. The fans also tried to enter the ground but timely intervention of Cavelossim team manager Narciso Fernandes prevented the incident from progressing.
Nelson Fernandes made no mistake with the resultant spot kick in the 64th minute.
With this win, Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim collected 21 points from nine matches and stay at the top while Raia Sporting Club have eight points from the same number of encounters.
“I am elated by my side’s performance. I have always advocated an all-out approach and today the boys implemented our plans perfectly,” said Severino Fernandes, coach, Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim.
At Assolna ground, Margao Sports Club downed St Rock’s Sports Club Fatrade, Varca 4-2. Margao led 2-0 at half time.
 Parryson Rebello put Margao into the lead off a pass from Romeo Fernandes. The goal spurred to intensify their forays into the rival territory and they increased their tally through Romeo Fernandes off Perryson Rebello.
 Sanito Fernandes reduced the margin soon after resumption and later Columban Noronha restored parity for the Fatrade side. Stunned by the equaliser, Margao went into an aggressive mode and called the shots against the rival citadel. Jaison Pereira put Margao into the lead while Perrryson Rebello rounded off the tally late in the second half.
With this win, Margao Sports Club collected 16 points from nine matches while St Rock’s Sports Club suffered their seventh defeat and have four points from the same number of encounters.
