MAPUSA: Santa Cruz Club de Cavelossim SOWS defeated Cuncolim Warriors 2-1 in the Vedanta Women’s league, organised by Goa Football Association, played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Monday.
Namita Govekar and Kushboo Saundatikar were the goal scorers for Cavelossim while Vailanka D’souza scored the consolation goal for the warriors.
Cavelossim SOWS dominated the first half of the match with continuous attacks at the Cuncolim Union half. But the Cuncolim Union defence kept their composure and warded off the attacks.
The best chance was created by Cavelossim after Jeromina Colaco played the ball to Nevilla Colaco who tried a shot at goal but was off target.
Cavelossim’s front women Jeromina, Namita and Nevilla kept terrorising the Cuncolim Union defence with a string of attacks but were all warded off by Cuncolim’s rock solid back four of Malvita, Marina, Maheshwari and Lifa.
At half time the score was 0-0.
Post resumption, Cuncolim looked a completely different side as they started playing with a much higher defensive line. Their attacks became more frequent but were easily stopped by Cavelossim. At the other end, Cavelossim didn’t stop their attacking flair as Sushmita Jadhav played the ball to Kushboo Saundatikar who’s well placed shot was well held onto by Cuncolim keeper Mayflower Colaco.
Mayflower Colaco saved Cuncolim Warriors from further blushes as she saved yet another shot from Sujita Murgaokar.
In the 15th minute of the second half, Cuncolim goalie Mayflower Colaco couldn’t save another after Namita Govekar slotted home the goal on her own shot’s rebound.
In the 26th minute of the second half, Cavelossim’s Kushboo Saundatikar headed a goal making it 2-0 for her side.
In the 30th minute of the second half, Cuncolim scored a consolation through Vailanka D’Souza who put the ball past Cavelossim goalkeeper Josline D’Souza. Sharon Fernandes played a precise through ball to her before she slotted the ball past the keeper.
