Cavelossim survive Clube Sao Minguel scare

Cresson, Velington, Aaren and Joshua scored for the winners while Levino and Pramod netted for CSM in an enthralling encounter

DULER: Santa Cruz Club Cavelossim put up a commendable performance to get the better of Clube Sao Minguel De Taleigao by a 4-2 win in the GFA’s Pro League match played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Wednesday.
Cavelossim now stand with seven points from four matches while CSM Taleigao are still with one point from four matches.
At halftime the winners led by a 3-1 margin with Cresson Antao, Melwin Fernandes and Aaren D’Silva doing the scoring act, while Levino Pereira scoring for CSM Taleigao.
SCC Cavelossim did not give their opponents much time to settle down and forged into the lead in the 2nd minute of play when their skipper Cresson Antao rose high above his marker to nod home Ashley Araujo’s freekick.
Stunned by the early deficit CSM Taleigao pressed hard and managed to level terms in the 13th minute of play when referee Sharad Naik found SCC Cavelossim’s Cryson Fernandes bring on an unwarranted challenge on Pramod Mardolkar inside the 18-yard box, and pointed to the penalty spot. Levino Pereira who took the responsibility of the kick saw his strike being blocked by the Cavelossim keeper Jeeta Gupta. However Levino did well to score from the rebound to make it 1-1.
After some midfield play SCC Cavelossim managed to take the lead once again when in the 22nd minute of play as Aaren D’Silva sent a perfect pass to Velington Rocha who scored through a deft placement, 2-1.
In a span of a few minutes SCC Cavelossim once again got into the scoring act when Aaren D’Silva got hold of the ball from Melwin Fernandes and after making his way past the CSM Taleigao defenders slotted the ball home.
Crossing over, the Cavelossim colts were all over the Taleigao territory, piling on a series of threatening raids.
In the early minutes Cresson Antao once again came with another vicious header, however Taleigao keeper Rohan Sheikh did well to keep the ball from entering the nets.
Cavelossim keeper Jeeta Gupta too did a fine job under the horizontal bar to twice stop Gaurav Kankokar from finding the back of the nets.
Taleigao managed to reduce the margin in the 85th minute of play when Pramod Mardolkar beat his marker and unleashed a powerful shot from inside the 18-yard box which found no answer from the rival keeper.
In the closing moments of the match SCC Cavelossim were awarded with a penalty when Taleigao keeper Rohan Sheikh brought down Daulat Dessai inside the 18-yard box, prompting the referee to signal to the spot. 
Joshuah Vaz scored from the opportunity to seal the fate of the match.
