PANJIM: CGST & Customs, Goa defeated Indian Navy football team, 2-0, in an exhibition football match organised by CGST, Goa Department, on the occasion of Central Excise Day 2024, celebrated on the February 24 all over the country, at the Don Bosco High School ground, Panjim.
CGST & Customs claimed a 1-0 advantage following a collaborative effort spearheaded by Saurabh Patil, Ashrafali and Charles Miranda. Charles skillfully found the back of the net. Despite the Navy’s efforts to equalise, the solid defense led by Saurabh Patil, Mohit Sharma, and Manish Rana proved formidable. The first half concluded with a score of 1-0 in favour of CGST & Customs.
In the midfield, Charles Miranda, Kishan Kholkar, and Ashrafali showcased exceptional play for CGST & Customs, while Shreyas Hanchilal, Vivekanda Yadav, and Athikho Nikheni excelled in defense for the Navy team, thwarting CGST & Customs’ strikers.
The second half saw CGST & Customs aggressively pursuing a second goal, with a powerful attempt by Captain Frankie Mascarenhas hitting the goal post. Despite the Navy’s near-equaliser, Harshad Gadekar of CGST & Customs made a splendid save. Ten minutes before the final whistle, Charles Miranda scored again, securing a 2-0 victory for CGST & Customs.
Chief guest, Commissioner of CGST, Goa, presided over the prize distribution ceremony and awarded the prizes in the presence of guest of honour Bro James Marcus, SDB and Director of the Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim.
