MARGAO: Chinchinim Veterans A beat Ambelim Veterans 5-3 via the tie-breaker to storm into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Chinchinim Veterans Cup football tournament organised by Chinchinim Veterans at church ground, Chinchinim, Saturday. They led 1-0 at half time.
Chinchinim Veterans well served by Mauricio Afonso, Mahesh Lotlikar, Alvito Pereira and Jerry Fernandes.
Chinchinim surged ahead when Jerry Fernandes beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat placement.
Crossing over, Ambelim were a transformed lot and raided the rival citadel. They came close to leveling the score but the rival defenders stood tall.
After Jerry Fernandes doubled the lead with a snap shot, Ambelim Veterans dazzled and Benjamin Silva reduced the margin. Soon after, Ivan Fernandes restored parity.
Chinchinim had the last laugh in the tie-breaker.
