PANJIM/ MARGAO: Churchill Brothers FC Goa and Guardian Angel SC played out a goalless draw in the GFA Goa Pro League (Relegation league) match played at Chowgule ground, Margao on Wednesday.
In the first half Churchill Brothers defender Keenan Almeida and Sadik Shaikh stood rock solid and defended well while for Guardian Angel Rosario Mendes guarded their goal.
Guardian Angel SC had the first shot at goal when Joywin Cardozo took control of a pass from Yunal Fernandes but his effort was saved by Churchill keeper Subhajit.
At the other end, Churchill Brothers saw their effort being saved when Tippanna Shantappa fired from a distance.
Yunal Fernandes of Guardian Angel saw his move being foiled by Keenan Almeida in the 20th minute.
Churchill Brothers should have scored in the 36th minute but GASC keeper Royal brilliantly stopped the shot.
As the match progressed, in the second half, Churchill Brothers dominated and missed chances to score through Clencio Pinto and Tippana Shantappa while for Guardian Angel substitute Nicholas Rodrigues and Johnson Horta missed chances.
Calangute win
Meanwhile in another match at Duler Stadium, there was late drama where Calangute Association scored a late goal deep in the injury time to down Velsao Sports and Cultural club 1-0.
Moises D’Sa scored the only goal of the game after coming on as a 80th minute substitute.
Velsao were the dominating force right from the first whistle and forced Calangute to defend resolutely throughout.
James had the first shot at goal but Calangute keeper saved the shot.
Calangute keeper made another good save at the half hour mark when he saved Romario Da Costa after Deryl Silva did the spadework .
Calangute Desmon was tackled by the defender when he was about the take a shot at the Velsao goal.
Romario was really unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet as he was denied by the Calangute keeper just before the half time.
Crossing over, Velsao continued to create their chances but Calangute maintained the to keep the scoresheet blank with another fine save this time denying Cajetan Fernandes.
At the other end, Calangute Association’s Jovito Fernandes who was fed by Chaitan missed a sitter when he missed to tap the ball past the advancing keeper.
With the fans moving out of the stadium, Calangute stunned the stadium with a late winner. Veron intercepted a pass and set up Moises, who scored with a simple shot to earn full points.
