MAPUSA/RAIA: Cortalim Villagers SWSC held off a late surge from Chapora Yuvak Sangh to clinch a 2-1 victory in their GFA U-20 League encounter at Vagator on Wednesday.
Buoyed by their 2-0 win over Pax of Nagoa, Cortalim pressed high from the outset and established a two-goal cushion by the interval. In the 25th minute, Rubin Azavedo’s corner was expertly headed in by Ayush Kumar. Five minutes later, Rubin’s attempt was blocked by the Chapora goalkeeper, but Akshay Rathod reacted swiftly to drill home the rebound for 2-0.
Cortalim dominated the second half yet failed to extend their lead, with Rio Fernandes twice denied by the crossbar. Chapora reduced the margin in the 85th minute when Mahesh found the target, but Cortalim held firm to secure full points.
At the SAG Utorda ground, Churchill Brothers FC fought back from a goal down to defeat Calangute Association 2-1.
Calangute struck first through Prathmesh Sawant in the opening session, but Churchill regained control after the break. Goals from Jolen Peixote and Vellroy Colaco completed the turnaround and ensured all three points.
At the Nagoa panchayat ground, Pax of Nagoa SC registered a gritty 2-1 win over Vasco SC. Vasco went ahead through Yunus Mohammad Shaikh in the first session, before Pax responded in the second half with goals from Meviton Barbosa and substitute Melchoir Miranda.
Meanwhile, Clube de Salgaocar and Bidesh XI SC played out a goalless draw at the Verna Panchayat ground.
U-18: Panchwadi United win Panchwadi United SC notched a 2-1 win over Wilred Leisure SC in the U-18 Division two match at the DBO Fatorda ground, on Wednesday. Rio Fernandes opened the scoring before substitute Royce Mascarenhas added the second. Dawsan Sardinha reduced the margin for Wilred Leisure SC.
