MAPUSA: Cortalim Villagers SC registered a well-deserved 4-2 win over Guardian Angel SC to enter into the semi-finals of the Goa Police Football Cup organised by Goa Police Cell in association with Goa FootballAssociation, at Duler Stadium, here, on Tuesday.
Early in the match, Cortalim Villagers SC came close in opening their account but Guardian Angel SC’s goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues brought two smart saves, first as he blocked Prathmesh Gaonkar’s strike for a corner at the first post and later swayed the ball for a corner off Bersal Viegas header.

However, in the 19th minute, referee Sachin Padoskar pointed to the dreaded spot after Guardian Angel SC’s Gilbert Oliveira had handled the ball inside the penalty box. Cortalim Villagers SC’s skipper Denil Rebello made no mistake
in scoring to put his team ahead, 1-0.
Guardian Angel SC’s squandered two glorious chances in levelling terms with Clifton Rebello and Joel Barretto failing to keep their strikes inside the rival goal framework.
In the 31st minute, Prathmesh darted inside the Guardian Angel SC’s 18-yard box and sent a square pass to Ronil Azavedo whose tap was smartly blocked by custodian Oswin Rodrigues.
At the other end Guardian Angel SC Joel’s strike was saved by Cortalim Villagers SC’s goalkeeper Francis Vincent D.
On resumption of play, Guardian Angel SC’s Joel latched a scorching right footer from outside the penalty box which was superbly blocked by Cortalim Villagers SC’s custodian.
As the match progressed, Cortalim Villagers colts Bersel Viegas, Ronil Azavedo and substitute Cyril Dias scored while for Guardian Angel SC Joel and substitute Joywin Costa scored, 4-2.
Cortalim Villagers’ Bersel Viegas received the man-of-the-match award from Mohan Shetty, owner of Ratna Sagar Restaurant, in the presence of DySP Rupendra Shetgaonkar and PI Sports Raia Naik.
