PANJIM: Cuncolim Union edged past Saligao United 2-1 in 7th London Trophy football organized by Goa Velha Sports Club at Goa Velha ground, Goa Velha. Cuncolim led 1-0 at half time.
Cuncolim Union surged ahead when Trevon slotted past Goa Velha goalkeeper Dietmar off a pass from Daulat.
At the other end, Saligao created umpteen opportunities but failed to convert them. First, Clifton’s shot rebounded off the Cuncolim upright. In the very next minute, Saligao’s Trevor provided a defence splitting pass to Pravin, who however, short over the bar.
Immediately after resumption, Trevon completed his brace when he slotted past a diving Dietmar.
In an effort to reduce the margin, Saligao launched a series of attacks. Terence was set up by Dylan but he shot straight into the hands of Cuncolim goalkeeper Tylex. Saligao reduced the margin at the fag end when Jose Alvares converted a spot kick which was awarded to Saligao by the referee after Cuncolim’s Rosario handled the ball inside the danger zone.
