CAVELOSSIM : Cuncolim Union played a spirited game to beat Betalbatim by 1-0 to enter the final of the Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup, organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, at Fr Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim.
In a fast pace encounter, it was Cuncolim who missed a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 10th minute when Daylon Carvalho floated the ball from a narrow angle which beat goalkeeper Joivin Branganza but Didymus Antao effected a goal-line save for Betalbatim.

Cuncolim continued to misfire when Daulat Desai missed an easy chance when he chipped the ball over the advancing Betalbatim keeper but missed the target by a yard. Betalbatim’s Savan Lotlikar and Oliver D’ Souza combined well upfront and were a constant threat to Cuncolim defenders. Joelon Fernandes gave a back pass to Brenson Fernandes whose powerful shot was saved by the Cuncolim keeper Vicky Naik by diving to his right.
In the 65th minute, Cuncolim broke the ice when a powerful shot taken by Daulat Desai rebounded back and landed at the foot of Clifton Fernandes who made no mistake from handshaking distance to put Cuncolim ahead. Betalbatim fought back when a dipping free-kick taken by Oliver D’Souza missed the upright by inches.
Cuncolim Union will now clash with Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda in the final on September 4.
