RAIA: Cuncolim Union defeated Mandopa SC 4-3 in the First Division League at Nagoa ground, on Monday.
Ajay Raj M of Mandopa should have netted in the very third minute but Daniel Rebello of Cuncolim Union cleared the ball to safety. Three minutes later, Cuncolim’s James Fernandes failed with his long ranger.
Mando hit back in the 9th minute and Under -20 Ajay Raj M controlled a pass from Shelford Fernandes and shot goalwards where it brushed past the hands of Cuncolim goalkeeper Christo Hilario and sailed in.
Immediately thereafter, Mandopa’s Sweton Rebello long ranger missed the target by a whisker.
Mandopa netted the second goal through Melroy Fernandes in the 32nd minute. A tricky move by James Fernandes in the 34th minute should have netted the third but the later shot wide.
Cuncolim Union pulled a goal back through Denil Rebello in the 36th minute. As the match progressed in the second half, Prestly Pinto of Mandopa missed a chance to score in the 48th minute. Five minutes later, John Khati of Cuncolim Union missed a chance to score.
Cuncolim retaliated and Maldino Rodrigues’ header flied over the crossbar. They almost drew parity but Maldino’s header hit the goalpost.
Cuncolim Union finally succeeded in equalising through Velvino Fernandes with a placement shot.
It was substitute Mark Gomes of Mandopa who tapped the ball into the Cuncolim Union net in the 79th minute to regain the lead. Cuncolim Union made it 3-all in the 87th minute as he converted a spot kick.
James Fernandes of Cuncolim Union netted the fourth goal with a power-packed shot in the 91st minute.
