KIRBHAT -NUVEM: Cuncolim Union got the better of Sao Jose de Areal 5-3 via the tie-breaker to enter into the quarter-finals of the Parish Youth Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Parish Youth Nuvem, played at Nuvem church ground, on Tuesday.
Cuncolim striker Daulat Dessai was in thick of action as the latter missed two good scoring chances in the second and sixth minute as both his arrow bound shots were denied by the Areal crossbar.
In the 12th minute, Daulat got an open chance to score but chose to send in a diagonal past to Joesilo D’Silva who at once took a drive shot to open the account for Cuncolim.
Two minutes later, Areal’s Bersel Viegas long range shot failed to pop up into Cuncolim net. Areal’s Liston D’Costa should have scored in the 19th and 20th minutes but Cuncolim keeper Jeosico Dias saved but the shots brilliantly.
As the match progressed, in the 23rd minute, Daulat Dessai’s curler made it 2-0 for Cuncolim.
With just five minutes left for the first half, Areal’s Liston D’Costa pulled a goal back with a placement shot.
In the second half, Areal coach Inacio Faleiro changed the game plan by giving extra task to defender Nevil Fernandes which paid off as Nevil Fernandes fired a long range from the centre which crushed into the Cuncolim net to level terms in the 40th minute.
In the tie-breaker, Cuncolim Union proved to be better shooters.
Cuncolim Union keeper Jeosico Dias was awarded the man-of-the-match award.
Cuncolim Union will now meet Guirdolim SC in the quarter-finals on August 27.
