MARGAO: Curtorim Gymkhana overcame United Club of Telaulim (UCT) 2-1 in GFA’s First Division League football match, at DSYA ground, Curtorim, on Monday. The teams were tied 1-1 at the breather.
The teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the crowds on their toes. They had equal number of scoring chances.
Telualim nearly found success but Michael Silva blasted wide from close range.
Subsequently, Curtorim Gymkhana broke the deadlock in the seventh minute when striker Milagres Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Stung by the setback, Telaulim intensified their attacks and called the shots against the rival citadel. Their persistent forays paid off dividends in the 25th minute when Sony Rodrigues bulged the net giving no chance what so ever to the rival goalkeeper.
Crossing over, Curtorim Gymkhana struck the match-winner in the 52nd minute when Gladstone Antao headed home off a well measured cross from Agnelo Colaco.
Down by 2-1, Tealulim piled on the pressure at the fag end but Alvito Colaco and Clayson Fernandes failed to beat the Curtorim Gymkhana goalkeeper in one-to-one situations.
With this win, Curtorim Gymkhana finished their first leg engagement and top the table with 19 points from seven matches while United Club of Telaulim stay on 13 points from seven matches.
In another matches, Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao played a goalless draw against Corps of Signals while Panjim Footballers and Penha de Franca Sports Club played out a 1-1 draw. Goa Police Sports Club drew with Guardian Angel Sports Club, Sanvordem as neither teams managed to score at the end of the normal time.
