MAPUSA: ABC Arambol played their hearts out to get the better of Guardian Angel SC by a solitary goal win to clinch Anjuna Gymkhana Cup organised by Anjuna Gymkhana at the Anjuna Gymkhana ground, on Sunday.
Both the teams exhibited great consistency throughout the tournament.
The final match started with balanced offensive game play. However, a back pass from an ABC Arambol defender led to a mishap when the goalkeeper failed to control the ball, giving it to the opponent striker to score, but he failed to convert the opportunity. As the game progressed, both the teams relentlessly attacked, striving to take the lead.
In the dying minutes, ABC Arambol’s Cyprian Rodrigues scored the all-important goal with a neat placement 1-0. The winners received Rs 1,11,111 and a trophy, while Guardian Angel SC took home Rs 77,777 and a trophy.
Earlier, chief guest Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo and guest of honour Anjuna Sarpanch Laxmidas Chimulkar along with Panchas Dinesh Patili, Sudesh Parsekar, former panch Hanuman Govekar, Goa Football Association Executive Committee members Uday Lingudkar and Padwin Fizardo were introduced to the players and match officials. Roysal D’Souza, president of the club, proposed a vote of thanks.
