MARGAO: The Students’ Council along with the Department of Physical Education and Sports of Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics organized an inter-class and staff X-country Race recently.
The run is organized every year to celebrate National Sports Day, which is celebrated throughout India on August 29.
A total of 115 participants took part in the event, of whom 65 were boys and 38 were girls in the student category, while 12 were staff members.
The distance for the race was 6 km for boys and 4 km for girls and staff.
In the Men’s category, Amrut Viridikar (TY BCA) secured first place, Juvot Costa ( TYBCom-A) secured second place while Muktiar Shaikh (FYBcom A) had to settle for the third place.
In the women’s category, Sonal Gaonkar (M.Com–I) claimed first place while Jenica Gomes (M.Com-I) secured second place and Roshni Khatur won the third place.
In the staff section, Sarvesh Gaude won the first place, Ashok Naik secured second place and Asst. Prof. Mamta Kumari had to settle for third place.
The overall Team Championship was won by TYBCA, while TYBCom-B were declared runners-up in men’s section. In the women’s section, the team championship was won by M.Com-II and M.Com-I were declared as runners-up.
Nativity Colaco, alumnus of the College and an outstanding athlete, who has represented Goa as well as India, was the chief guest for the function and gave the winners trophies, certificates and medals.
